B. Destination Seattle May 2017—Alaska Beyond Magazine: The Destination Seattle Special Section celebrates Alaska Airlines as Seattle’s hometown airline. The airline operates its major hub at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, and this special section directly supports Alaska Airlines’ dominant position in Seattle, with more than 50% of the passenger traffic. The content of this special section promotes exploration of the Puget Sound area, with coverage of attractions, activities, sports, cultural venues and more. Profiles of local luminaries such as elite mountain climber Ed Viesturs, and lauded sommelier Shayn Bjornholm, the examination director of the Court of Master Sommeliers, America, demonstrate strong Puget Sound-region connections and cachet, while three dynamic “Photo Safari” spreads provide engaging visuals of the greater Seattle area. In addition to being published in the May issue of Alaska Beyond Magazine, Destination Seattle was printed as a stand-alone for distribution to visitors and prospective visitors throughout the entire year. Response to this special section by airline customers from throughout North America and from the Puget Sound area has been extremely positive, resulting in the effective communication of Alaska Airlines’ strength as Seattle’s top airline. The Destination Seattle Special Section is also carried online in a digital format, making it easily accessible all year to customers and prospective customers.
