Prior to working with Consolidated Press the client was working with a web press printer in the mid-west where many magazines are produce. FreeHub magazine has always been designed to be a coffee table publication that is somewhat timeless in duration. The photography combined with the meticulous design is evidence of this. As a small publisher, the client was looking to reduce costs and improve quality to create a publication like none other.
To accomplish this we utilized two unique presses:
Cover printing: The cover was run as a 4/4, 4/CP + flood soft touch aqueous. Then we had it spot gloss UV coated. Keeping sheet to sheet register on press allows for the spot UV to register well.
Text printing: The text was run as 4/4 on our 10/c roll-fed Komori sheet fed press. This allows for half the traditional press time and press checks since it prints both sides in one pass. This also allows for cost effective paper and low paper waste enabling us to deliver the best quality at the best price.
